Getting There

Most visitors will arrive at Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), located in the south-west part of Warsaw, about 9km from the city centre. The airport is easily accessed by public transportation.

Transport from Warsaw Chopin Airport

Taxi

There is a taxi rank in front of Terminal A of the airport.

For safety reasons, we recommend using licensed taxi services offered at Chopin airport. Taxi tariffs should be clearly displayed in car windows, and we advise paying in cash. Do NOT take a taxi from anyone who may approach you in the arrival hall. They often do not have a license to carry people in their cars, and their fees are often much higher than a registered and legal corporate taxi.

There are three official taxi companies: Sawa Taxi, Ele Taxi, and Super Taxi. The taxi company names are displayed on the side doors of the vehicles.

A taxi from the airport to the city centre takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs PLN 35-50, depending on the taxi company.

If you are going straight to Sofitel Hotel Victoria from the airport, you may like to use the hotel’s taxi service. This can prevent any issues with taxi drivers who may charge inconsistent rates or have varying degrees of English. You can arrange this by calling the concierge on +48 22 657 82 84. They will arrange for a Sawa Taxi hostess to greet you in the arrivals hall of the airport and take you to your taxi. The service costs PLN 55 (around EUR 17).

Train

Chopin Airport and Warsaw’s city centre are connected by a fast and convenient rail link. The airport’s train station is to the right of the airport exit (follow the signs).

The train ride from the airport to the city centre takes approximately 25 minutes, and trains depart every 15-20 minutes. You can buy a single fare ticket for zone 1, costing around PLN4.4

The train service is operated by two companies – Szybka Kolej Miejska – SKM (red trains) and Koleje Mazowieckie – KM (green and yellow trains). If you choose a red SKM train then you will need to validate your ticket immediately, using a validating machine on the train. If you choose a KM train (green and yellow), enter through the first door of the train (at the head of the carriages) and notify the train manager for the purchase, legislation or activation of the ticket.

Central train stops are WARSZAWA CENTRALNA or WARSZAWA ŚRÓDMIEŚCIE, depending on the train. WARSZAWA CENTRALNA is the closest train station to the RIPE 68 Meeting venue, located 2km from the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria. A taxi from this station to the hotel will cost you around PLN14 (EUR3), depending on the taxi company.

Bus Services

The Public Transport Authority of Warsaw (ZTM) is a good guide to transport links in the area, featuring the most up-to-date information, timetables and an online travel planner.

The bus stop is located in front of the airport, you will need to cross 2 or 3 lanes of traffic to get to it. A single-fare zone 1 ticket will cost you around PLN4.4. The bus takes around 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic.

To get to the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria, take the 175 bus. Depart at the stop Uniwersytet 02, continue walking straight ahead and take your immediate left turn onto Romualda Traugutta. Continue down this street and take your first right onto pasaż Wacława Niżyńskiego- the hotel will be on your left.
